The global COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to change the way we live and work. This means that critical infrastructure must be in place to sustain families and essential businesses during this time of uncertainty. Flex is partnering with our cloud and communications customers to manufacture the equipment they need to provide essential services. Stable network services are needed to keep hospitals connected, support e-commerce, help students learn and keep communications flowing. At times, we take for granted our ability to stay connected and productive. During this crisis, we are seeing how important our cloud and communications infrastructure really is.
Network capacity is being pushed to its limits as millions of people work and learn from home, while increased e-commerce usage creates a demand spike for cloud infrastructure. To support infrastructure build-out and changing demands for communications and cloud customers, we are carefully managing manufacturing capacity.
The wave of the pandemic continues to impact different countries at different times, so we’ve allocated inventories across our global manufacturing network to meet customers’ needs. This agility has enabled us to shift production across sites. Our strong regional and global supply chain relationships ensure that materials are available when and where they are needed. Because this is a dynamic situation, we have also performed simulations for potential manufacturing transfers out of impacted geographic locations to other sites to minimize future product disruptions.
Through proactive collaboration, several of our customers advised us that their products qualify as essential services under exceptions to various government orders and requested that we maintain their production. While implementing the recommended safety guidelines for the protection of our employees, we have continued to provide manufacturing services to the cloud and communications customers who fall under essential services exceptions.
Our priority is to keep employees and communities safe while maintaining these critical manufacturing services. The learnings and best practices from our sites in China have now been implemented at impacted sites across the world. We are working with local governments to follow protocols as well as maintaining our own best practices. These include providing personal protective equipment, sanitizing workstations, deep cleaning, social distancing, monitoring temperatures and implementing self-quarantine measures.
These essential wireless networks and cloud infrastructure allow us to work from home, connect virtually with people and keep information flowing to those in need during these trying times. At Flex, we are guided by our purpose to build great products that create value and improve people’s lives. We are working to meet our customers’ increasing demands by providing critical infrastructure for essential services while following recommended guidelines for the safety of our employees and communities.
