It’s an industry that has transformed beyond recognition to the pioneers who started Flextronics 50 years ago. However, the core values of striving to find a better way, moving fast with discipline and purpose, and always doing the right thing, have remained central to our culture and will continue to guide us into the future.

NASA puts a man on the moon.
Flextronics® is founded in Silicon Valley, California.
1970
Earth Day, a national day to focus on the environment, is launched.
In 2019, 71 Flex sites across 20 countries deliver 320 Earth Day Challenge initiatives.
1973
The first wearable infusion pump was invented by physics student, Dean Kamen.
Today, 85% of the world’s medical device manufacturers partner with Flex.
1974
Erno Rubik, a Hungarian architect, creates the Rubik’s® cube.
Today, Flex employees almost 10,000 employees across six sites in Hungary.
1980 - 1989
1981
The IBM® PC, using MS-DOS®, is introduced.
Flextronics pioneers a new era of outsourced and automated manufacturing.
1986
Mexico hosts the FIFA World Cup® for the 2nd time.
Today, Flex operations in Mexico cover the equivalent of 871 football fields.
1987
The first handheld mobile phone from Ericsson®, the 'HotLine Pocket', is launched.
Flextronics goes public.
1988
Dell® Computer is incorporated.
Flextronics Malaysia starts operations in Skudai, Johor.
1990 - 1999
1990
The UK’s Tim Berners-Lee creates the World Wide Web.
Flextronics International, Ltd. Is registered in Singapore.
1992
The International Day of People with Disability (PwD) was first celebrated.
In 2019, Flextronics employees support PwD by hosting 100 activities in 31 countries.
1995
Microsoft® released Windows™ 95.
Microsoft® selects Flextronics to manufacture it’s mouse.
1997
The DeepBlue® computer from IBM® beats chess champion Garry Kasparov.
Flextronics is ranked 5th largest contract manufacturer with over $1B in revenue.
2000 - 2009
2000
USB flash drives are introduced.
Flextronics is ranked third on Industry Week’s list of 100 Best-Managed Companies.
2001
The original Microsoft® Xbox™ is released.
Flextronics expands design and prototyping services in Japan.
2004
The first US 3G cellular network and phones are announced.
Flextronics revenue surpasses $14B as employee numbers top 100,000.
2007
Apple® launches their first product, the iPhone®.
Flextronics acquires Solectron, significantly increasing global capacity.
2009
Google® includes Satellite Navigation on the latest version of the Android™.
Flextronics rings the NASDAQ opening bell to mark 15 years on the index.

2012
The UN launches the International Day of Forests.
Flextronics plants 6,800 trees to bring attention to global deforestation.
2013
Flextronics and Google® collaborate to develop the first Google Chromecast™.
Flextronics expands to provide end-to-end services.
2015
Supply chains begin to go digital.
Flex is established as the company name, reflecting our diverse capabilities and markets served.
2019
The number of women running Fortune 500 companies is at a record high.
Flex appoints Ms. Revathi Advaithi as CEO.
